Irvington police are trying to locate the relatives and friends of a 86-year-old man who was critically injured in a car accident Sunday.
John Sterner was struck by a car that backed into him at Springfield and Ellis avenues, according to Anthony Colacurto, the Irvington police director.
The accident occurred at 9 a.m. when a couple from New York pulled out of a driveway, he said. The driver, whose name was not immediately available, was charged with careless driving.
Colacurio said Sterner was taken to University Hospital in Newark. A hospital spokesperson said yesterday he was in critical condition and being treated for head injuries.
Anyone with information should contact Detective Richard Winowski of the Irvington Police Department.
Meanwhile, the Orange Police Department is also looking for the relatives of a 54-year-old man who died in a fire earlier this month.
Director Charles Cobbertt said the body of Albert Sabo was discovered in a blaze Dec. 4 at an abandoned gas station at 21 Glenwood Ave. in Orange.
Sabo's last known address was 142 William St.
