An East Orange man was arrested in Middlesex County yesterday and charged with raping his former girlfriend in her Orange apartment, Orange Police Director Charles Cobbertt reported.
John Bachlor, 47, of Amherst Street in East Orange, was picked up by Woodbridge police in their community on an outstanding arrest warrant, Cobbertt said.
Once Orange police were notified, they brought the suspect back to the Essex County community and formally charged him with aggravated sexual assault, he added.
According to Cobbertt, the charge stems from his "forcibly raping" his 32-year-old former girlfriend in her Mechanic Street apartment last month.
Bachlor will remain jailed in Orange, pending an arraignment in the city's municipal court tomorrow.
