A 34-year-old man remained hospitalized yesterday after being shot in the chest while walking along a street in Orange, police said.
Police Director Charles Cobbertt said the victim, George (Tony) Lewter of North Day Street, was injured under unknown circumstances about 8:10 p.m. Sunday.
According to Cobbertt, "We don't know what happened" except that "he was shot once in the left side of his chest."
After the attack, friends took Lewter to Orange Memorial Hospital, said Cobbertt, adding that the hospital notified police of the shooting.
Cobbertt asked anyone with information about the shooting to call the municipal police department's detective bureau.
