A 22-year-old Orange woman was arrested yesterday on charges of robbing two elderly men, one 87 and the other 78, of their wallets as they walked down different city streets.
Police Director Charles Cobbertt identified the suspect as Stephanie Norman, who is unemployed and lives on Highland Avenue.
Neither of the victims was injured, he noted.
Norman is accused of using a stick to rob the 87-year-old man as he walked along South Centre Street on Thursday afternoon, Cobbertt said.
She also is accused of "forcibly taking" the 78-year-old retired man's "wallet right out of his pants" as the victim walked down Reynolds Terrace shortly before 11 a.m. yesterday, Cobbertt said.
Officer Michael Crowley, cruising through the neighborhood in his patrol car, witnessed the incident and nabbed Norman, Cobbertt continued.
Two brothers from Orange were arrested yesterday for beating a neighbor and fracturing his skull so they could steal the man's color television set, according to police.
Police Director Charles Cobbertt identified the suspects as Lance W. Bondurant, 18, and his brother, Gregory W., 24, both residents of a Mt. Vernon Avenue apartment building.
Both were charged with burglary, robbery and aggravated assault.
The Bondurants were nabbed in their appartment about 2 a.m. about 2.5 hours after their neighbor, James Rozek, 40, who lives in the same building, was taken to hospital, Cobbertt said.
Rozek was coming downstairs about 11:30 p.m. Thursday when the two brothers approached him, "chased him back upstairs and into his apartment, beat him up with their fists, a chair and a golf club, took his 19-inch color television, and then fled," the police director said.
